Just to be clear, the GermGuardian is designed to protect you against germs – it doesn’t guard germs. In this GermGuardian review, we’ll take a look at just how effectively it does its job and whether it can help clear your air of other unwanted elements too – such as smoke.
Many of the reasons to keep clean air are obvious and self-explanatory. The first of these are the health benefits – and there are many of these if you work to ensure your air is clean and breathable at all times. You can’t see it, but at any time the air around you is actually filled with microscopic particles that you walk through and breath in 24 hours a day. This is true of the cleanest air and it includes things like dust, dead skin, bacteria (good and bad), water vapour and smoke. However, in enclosed spaces such as buildings, and particularly where there is no air conditioner, this can build up and be quite severe.
Does the GermGuardian offer the answer?
Design and Appearance
This is a very basic air purifier in terms of the design, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It has a white coloring and a very rounded aesthetic – all of which helps it to feel quite modern. It also has a handle, which makes it easy to move this from one room to another. And the white colorscheme means it should be able to slip into your home without drawing attention to itself.
The GermGuardian utilizes a HEPA filter system in order to remove the unwanted allergens, dander, toxins, and odor from your air. This means that the air is passing through a physical filter, which should capture a lot of those larger, unwanted particles. Think of this a little like moving a net through a pond in order to catch small fish. That is enough to help you remove 99.97% of unwanted dust and allergens, and to remove things as small as .3 microns. This might sound good but it’s pretty standard for an air purifier.
What’s more impressive is the high-performance CADR rating of 244 for smoke – and it scores similarly in other areas too.
While this doesn’t come with many all-singing-and-dancing features, what it does offer is an additional ionizer. Ionizers work to remove unwanted particles by attracting those with a different charge. This has a lot of benefits that are slightly different from the benefits of HEPA filtration and by combining both into a single unit, you get something that’s even more powerful – especially against allergies.
You can also turn this function off when it’s not needed.
